Celebrating the Ridgeway – Our Spring Inspired Exhibition

01/2025

We’re excited to announce our spring-inspired exhibition, “Celebrating the Ridgeway“, on display until mid-February This showcase of original works captures the awakening beauty of one of Britain’s most ancient pathways as it emerges from winter’s slumber. Our featured artists have interpreted this historic landscape in strikingly different ways, each bringing their unique perspective to this timeless subject.

Some of the artists on display include:

Featured artist Sue Wheeler who brings a particularly distinctive vision to the exhibition with her limited edition linocuts, including the stunning new piece, hand printed,”White Horse at Uffington.” Her work transforms the rolling landscapes of the Ridgeway into dramatic compositions of light and shadow, created through her masterful printmaking technique. Sue’s background in ceramic design brings a unique sculptural quality to her prints, which are hand-printed with oil-based inks on premium Somerset Satin Archival Paper.

The exhibition also features Dawn Benson’s evocative paintings that capture the changing moods of the Ridgeway. As Dawn explains, “It is about how the place feels in that moment and that is how I paint.” Her work demonstrates how the landscape transforms from season to season, from the vibrant wildflower meadows of summer to the stark beauty of winter scenes with sheep grazing against snow-covered hills.

Lawrence Ward’s collection of paintings offers yet another perspective, with pieces that showcase the Ridgeway’s diverse character throughout the seasons. His work captures everything from poppy-filled meadows to dramatic skyscapes, each painting revealing another facet of this ancient landscape.

Together, these artists’ works remind us that the Ridgeway is more than just a path – it’s a living canvas that changes with each passing season. Their pieces capture not just the visual beauty of the landscape, but its deep connection to our cultural heritage and the way it continues to inspire creativity today.

The exhibition offers a perfect antidote to winter days, reminding us that spring is just around the corner. We hope you will pop in!
